As part of our Water Quality Program, Reef Relief leads Marine Debris Cleanups throughout the Florida Keys. We have proudly partnered with many individuals, non-profits, governmental organizations, school groups, clubs, and more to keep our shorelines and communities debris free. Through these partnerships, we are able to access critical habitat, boat-based transportation, kayak donations, etc. maximizing our impact. Waste Management continues to be a huge supporter in this initiative, frequently picking up trash after the event for free. Since 2010, we have cleaned up over 440,000lbs of trash! Thank you to our volunteers past and future!

In honor of CNN’s Call to Earth Day today, Reef Relief hosted a kayak cleanup with Lazy Dog Key West 🌎🌱 We had a total of 13 volunteers and removed 101.3 lbs of trash from our mangroves and waterways! A huge thank you to Lazy Dog for partnering with us and to our volunteers for getting out on (and, for some, into!) the water to clean up our marine environment. 🌊💚
For International Coastal Cleanup Day 2025, Reef Relief hosted a kayak cleanup at Archer Key with Danger Charters and a beach cleanup along Higgs and Nature Beach. We had 28 total volunteers and removed a whopping 498 lbs of trash!
In September Reef Relief partnered with Save Smathers to address the trash problem at Smathers Beach. We removed a total of 85lbs of marine debris from the shoreline, including microplastics, plastic and glass bottles, aluminum cans, wood, rope, and cigarette butts, and plan to continue working together to take care of our city’s beaches.
Reef Relief teamed up with the Conch Republic Marine Army on August 2nd to clean 620lbs of trash out of our local mangrove islands!
