Capt Roland Roberts House Hosted Open House & Holiday Reception Sat. Dec. 23, 2006

Reef Relief announced the re-opening of the Captain Roland Roberts House Environmental Center in New Plymouth, Green Turtle Cay, for the fifth consecutive year, with a Holiday Open House and Reception on Saturday, December 23, 2006. The facility is closed during hurricane season but will now be open for the rest of the year for visiting boaters, travelers, and residents to Green Turtle Cay. The non profit organization Reef Relief operates the center in cooperation with the Historic Preservation Foundation of Green Turtle Cay, which purchased and restored the house, and through the support of volunteer docents, both visiting and local, who help give tours of the facility to interested people. There is no admission charge.

Reef Relief is headquartered in New Plymouth’s sister city of Key West, Florida, and Yellow Air Taxi generously supported this event with complimentary airfare for Reef Relief directors.

Children and adults are welcome to visit and there will be free materials available on the coral reefs and activities for children. Tour the historic restored 1840's-era two story house, which was once the home of Captain Roland Roberts, of the Green Turtle Cay Roberts family. Learn about coral reefs, the aluminum recycling program, and the system of 18 public use reef mooring buoys that Reef Relief installed at Green Turtle Cay-area coral reefs. “The buoys are a great way to promote snorkeling Abaco’s beautiful coral reefs,” noted Reef Relief founder Craig Quirolo. “They identify the reefs for novice boaters and prevent anchor damage to the fragile coral below.”
