The Island Roots Heritage Festival was a great success

Reef Relief hosted the opening reception on Thursday, May 19 to a full house at the Captain Roland Roberts House Environmental Center. During the celebration at the city park, a ceremony was held and the Postmaster of the Bahamas presented DeeVon Quirolo, representing the City of Key West, with original releases of two commemorative stamps just released to celebrate the sister city relationship between New Plymouth and Key West. DeeVon read a letter from Key West Mayor Jimmy Weekley and proudly accepted the stamps on behalf of Key West. Secretary General Peter Anderson of the Conch Republic initiated the ceremony with a robust conch shell blowing, to the delight of everyone on the grounds. The celebration ran through the weekend with Bahamian food, games, activities, historical exhibits, a procession by the Royal Bahamian Band, singing by local students, and more.....see photos below compliments of Fred Wuest.
