Be A Sea Fan - Become a Volunteer
Reef Relief needs volunteers in the areas described below. To get involved, call us at (305) 294-3100 or email deevon@bellsouth.net.
* Docents for Reef World in Key West. Help introduce visitors to the coral reef ecosystem of the Florida Keys by providing tours of this new educational facility. Training provided. No special skills needed. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday. Full or half day volunteers needed now at this waterfront location in Key West.
* Docents for the Captain Roland Roberts House Environmental Center in New Plymouth, Green Turtle Cay, Abacos, Bahamas. Help introduce visitors to the coral reefs of the Bahamas by providing tours of this two story historic Conch House that now provides displays and information on coral reefs. Training provided. Lodging provided in the renovated rear kitchen building for a minimum 3 week commitment. You will help coordinate other volunteers and will staff the center for a maximum of five half days per week or three full days, depending upon scheduling.
* Volunteers to staff the Gift Store at Reef Relief in Key West, where all proceeds help support local efforts to protect coral reefs. Join our staff on the boardwalk of the Historic Seaport in Key West. Our small gift shop needs someone each day for Monday through Thursday. Training provided.
* If you have a special skill, such as painting, graphics, website, printing, planning special events, media relations, no matter where you live, we can use your help.
* If you live in the Florida Keys and have an automobile, we can use help distributing educational materials Keys-wide.
When out on the water.......
* If you are a diver or boater and are visiting coral reefs, pay attention to the condition of the reefs. Learn to recognize various signs of health or disease. We are interested in your observations, location of reefs, and condition. Images appreciated. Email us at reef@bellsouth.net.
* Be an ecofriendly diver or snorkeler and if on a charter, encourage your captain to respect the reef by *providing his guests with reef tips such as avoiding all contact from fins, hands and equipment. *providing float coats to snorkelers, *not anchoring on the coral, *not feeding the fish, *recycling your trash, *not discharging sewage overboard.
* INTERN POSITIONS AVAILABLE -- College students are encouraged to apply for our summer intern program in Key West. Training provided. You will become familiar with the following program areas: environmental education (operation of Reef World, children's summer programs and participating in special events as well as special events planning, including Reef Relief's annual celebration of coral reefs, Reef Awareness Week, held in July of each year.
