The white marks on several of the coral fragments are increasing in size and it appears that they are spreading to other corals on the Rosettes. This activity does not appear to be accelerating rapidly and does not appear to be a major threat at this time. The Macroalgae Liagora mucosa is in bloom covering much of the sea floor and portions of the rosettes devoid of living coral tissue. With the approval of Harold Hudson the clumps of Liagora mucosa growing on the rosettes were removed. This was a one time removal as the algae did not grow back (Liagora mucosa has bloomed in this area of the reef a few months after each major storm event in l998).
