This Montastrea annularis or massive star coral at Western Sambo Reef was damaged by Hurricane Georges. Note exposed light areas, produced by the impact of the storm.

These are some of the previously thriving coral rosettes from the Reef Relief coral nursery at Western Sambo Reef. Efforts are underway to re-secure living coral fragments to the concrete which protect them from additional movement and sedimentation. The pads were moved several hundred feet by the force of the storm.
